A major and innovative upgrade to Wodonga’s wastewater treatment plant was completed to increase its capacity and reduce carbon emissions.
This $83 million project enabled more efficient and effective reuse of waste to create renewable energy that can be used ‘behind the meter’ to power the plant, or fed into the electricity grid.
The upgrade was designed to unlock circular economy opportunities, including the production of biogas, recycled water, heat and biochar, with future potential to create slow-release fertiliser for agriculture.
